What this tool does

Add a question and an answer, then add more rows as you need them. The tool writes FAQPage structured data as JSON-LD, ready to paste into a page. Use Add Question for each pair and Clear to start again.

How to use it

  1. Type a question and its answer. Press Add Question for each extra pair.
  2. Watch the JSON-LD update in the preview as you type.
  3. Press Copy JSON-LD and paste it into your page.
  4. Test it with Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Read this before you add FAQ markup

In August 2023 Google restricted FAQ rich results to well-known, authoritative government and health websites. For most other sites, FAQ markup no longer produces the expandable questions in search results. The markup is still valid, and other search engines and tools may read it, but you should not expect a visible change in Google.

That makes the real rule simple: add FAQ markup only when the page has a genuine FAQ section that visitors can see, and make sure the questions and answers in the markup match the text on the page word for word. Markup for content that isn’t visible breaks Google’s guidelines.

If you use WordPress with Rank Math

Rank Math has an FAQ block that writes this markup for you from the block content. Use that instead if your pages are built in the block editor. Pasting a second FAQPage from this tool on top of it gives you duplicate structured data. This site’s tool pages use the Rank Math block for exactly that reason.

Using the generator output

Paste the generated <script type="application/ld+json"> block into the page, either in the head or in the body. Then test it with Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Writing better FAQ entries

  • Use real questions people ask, not keyword phrases.
  • Keep each answer short and complete. A sentence or two is usually enough.
  • Don’t repeat the same question in different words.

Will this give me FAQ rich results in Google?

Probably not. Since August 2023 Google shows them only for authoritative government and health sites. The markup is still valid.

Do I need markup if I have an FAQ section already?

It is optional. If you add it, it must match the visible text on the page.

Can I use this with Rank Math?

Use Rank Math’s FAQ block on pages built in the editor. Adding both gives duplicate FAQPage data.

How do I test the markup?

Paste the page URL or the code into Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Can I mark up questions that are not visible on the page?

No. The questions and answers in the markup must match text visitors can see on the page. Markup for hidden content breaks Google’s guidelines.
