What this tool does

Choose an image, then click and drag on the canvas to draw the crop area. Use a preset for a fixed shape (1:1, 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9) or Free for any shape. Select All starts from the whole picture and Reset Box clears your selection.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image, or drop it on the page.
  2. Pick an aspect ratio preset, or leave it on Free.
  3. Drag across the picture to set the crop area.
  4. Press Apply Crop & Export, then Download Cropped Image.

Choosing a ratio

  • 1:1 for avatars and square thumbnails.
  • 4:3 for the classic photo shape and many product images.
  • 3:2 for typical camera photos.
  • 16:9 for video thumbnails, banners and social share images. The real shape of Facebook and LinkedIn link cards is 1.91:1, so leave a little room at the sides.
  • Free for any other shape.

How the crop is done

The crop is made in your browser, so the image is not uploaded. The pixels inside your selection are copied at their original resolution, so the result is smaller in size, not blurrier. JPG and WebP are saved again at 95% quality. A cropped AVIF is exported as a PNG, because browsers can’t write AVIF. If the selection reaches outside the image, it is clamped to the edges.

Limits

  • The tool crops only. It doesn’t rotate or straighten the picture.
  • Metadata isn’t copied. Browsers apply EXIF rotation when they open a photo, so check the orientation in the preview.
  • One image at a time. The page states a 20 MB maximum but doesn’t check it in the browser.
  • An animated image becomes a single still frame.

To change the pixel size of the cropped result, use the Image Resizer.

Which aspect ratios are available?

1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and free selection.

Does cropping reduce the image’s resolution?

It keeps the pixels inside your selection at their original resolution, so the output is smaller in size, not blurrier.

Can I rotate the picture with this tool?

No. It crops only.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The crop is performed in your browser.

Why did I get a PNG when I cropped an AVIF?

Browsers can’t write AVIF files, so a cropped AVIF is exported as PNG.
