What this tool does
Upload a PDF and the tool looks for tables on each page and writes them to an .xlsx workbook. Numbers that look like numbers are stored as numeric cells, so SUM and similar formulas work. Header rows get light formatting.
How to use it
- Press Choose PDF File, or drop a PDF (up to 20 MB) on the page.
- Press Export to Excel.
- Press Download Excel (.xlsx) and compare a few figures with the PDF.
How tables are found
It uses PyMuPDF’s table detection, which looks at ruling lines and the alignment of text to work out rows and columns. This works best with tables that have clear lines or consistent column alignment, such as statements, price lists and exported reports.
How the sheets are organised
There is no option for this. The tool creates a sheet per page when a page has a single table (named like Page_3), and one sheet per table when a page has several (named like P3_Table_2). Sheet names are limited to 31 characters, an Excel rule.
If no table is detected on a page, the tool falls back to splitting that page’s text into rows and into columns wherever it finds wide gaps. That output needs checking. If nothing usable is found anywhere, the workbook contains a note that no tables were detected.
Limits
- Scanned PDFs can’t be read. Without a text layer there is nothing to extract, and the tool does no OCR.
- Tables without lines or with merged cells may be split into the wrong columns, or merged together.
- Multi-page tables become separate sheets, not one continuous table.
- Number detection is simple. A value like
1,234.50or12%may stay as text, so check columns before you calculate. - Password-protected PDFs are rejected. Unlock them first with Unlock PDF.
Always compare a few figures with the original. For continuous text rather than tables, PDF to Word is the better choice.
Your file is uploaded and held temporarily, not added to the media library. The download expires after 15 minutes. Up to 10 requests a minute are allowed.
Can I choose one sheet for all tables?
No. The tool creates a sheet for each page or table automatically.
Why are my numbers stored as text?
Number detection is simple. Values with thousands separators or symbols may stay as text, so convert those columns in Excel.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. There is no OCR, so a scanned page gives no tables.
Why are some columns merged or split wrongly?
Table detection depends on lines and alignment. Tables without clear structure are harder to read correctly.
How big can the PDF be?
Up to 20 MB.
