What this tool does

Enter a title, description and author, choose a character set and a robots setting, and add an optional share image URL. The tool writes the tags for the top of your page as you type.

The output includes <meta charset>, the viewport tag, <title> and a title meta, description, author, robots, and basic Open Graph and Twitter tags (type, title, description, image, card type). Fields you leave empty are skipped.

How to use it

  1. Enter the page title, description and author, and choose the charset.
  2. Choose the robots setting and add a share image URL if you want Open Graph tags.
  3. Press Copy HTML and paste the tags into the head of your page.

What each tag is for

  • charset tells the browser how to read the file. Use UTF-8 unless you have a specific reason not to.
  • viewport makes the page scale properly on phones. Without it, mobile browsers show a zoomed-out desktop layout.
  • title is the main text in a search result and the browser tab. Aim for roughly 50 to 60 characters so it isn’t cut off.
  • description often becomes the snippet under the title, but Google rewrites it when it thinks another part of the page answers the query better. Around 120 to 160 characters is a sensible length.
  • robots controls indexing. index, follow is the default. Use noindex only for pages you want kept out of search.

What it doesn’t include

There is no keywords tag. Search engines ignore it, and it is no longer worth writing. There is also no canonical link, hreflang or favicon markup. Add those yourself if you need them.

On a WordPress site

If you use an SEO plugin, don’t paste these tags into your theme. The plugin already writes them, and doubling up produces two titles or two descriptions. This tool is for static pages and for working out what the tags should say.

Check the result with the SERP preview to see roughly how the title and description fit.

Do I still need a meta keywords tag?

No. Major search engines ignore it, and this tool doesn’t generate one.

Will my description always appear in Google?

Not always. Google often rewrites the snippet from the page content to match the search query.

Should I use noindex?

Only for pages you want excluded from search, such as thank-you pages or internal search results. A noindexed page can still be crawled.

Can I paste these into WordPress?

If an SEO plugin manages your tags, don’t. You would end up with duplicates.

Can I set the page to noindex?

Yes. The robots options let you choose index or noindex and follow or nofollow. Use noindex only for pages you want kept out of search.
