PPT to PDF

Convert a .pptx file to PDF. It is redrawn by a custom converter, not PowerPoint, so charts, SmartArt and some fonts may not look the same.

What this tool does

Upload a .pptx file (up to 30 MB) and the server produces a PDF with one page per slide, at the slide’s own size.

How to use it

  1. Press Choose PowerPoint File, or drop a .pptx file (up to 30 MB) on the page.
  2. Press Convert to PDF.
  3. Press Download PDF and check every page.

How it converts, and why that matters

The conversion does not use Microsoft PowerPoint or LibreOffice. A Python script reads the presentation with python-pptx and redraws each slide onto a PDF page with PyMuPDF. It draws the slide background, shapes, text with its formatting and embedded pictures.

That approach is fast and works on a server with no Office installed, but it is an approximation of how PowerPoint draws things. Expect differences with:

  • Charts and SmartArt, which are not drawn the way PowerPoint draws them
  • Fonts that aren’t installed on the server, which are replaced with a substitute and change line breaks
  • Gradients, shadows, effects and complex shapes
  • Animations and transitions, which don’t exist in a PDF
  • Embedded video and audio, which are not included

Simple text-and-image slides convert best. Check each page of the PDF. If the layout matters, export from PowerPoint itself with “Save as PDF”, which is more reliable.

Limits

Only .pptx is accepted. Older .ppt files must be saved as .pptx first. Files over 30 MB are rejected, and a presentation with no slides gives an error.

Privacy

The file is uploaded, converted in a temporary folder and not added to the media library. The download link expires after 15 minutes. Up to 10 requests a minute are allowed. To go the other way, see PDF to PowerPoint.

Does it use PowerPoint to convert?

No. It redraws the slides with Python libraries, so the result can differ from PowerPoint’s own export.

Why does my chart look wrong?

Charts and SmartArt aren’t rendered the way PowerPoint does it. Export from PowerPoint for those.

Can it convert .ppt files?

No. Save as .pptx first.

Are animations kept?

No. A PDF holds static pages.

How big can the presentation be?

Up to 30 MB, and only .pptx files are accepted.
